AT HOME PROGRAM

"So Simple" uses a unique approach to teach those sight words that hinder fluency and create a high affective filter when a new reader or print-deprived child encounters them. Unlike some "songs" for sight words, this approach involves using the natural rhythm of the spelling of each word, and combining each with its unique tune and hand motions for the spelling of the word. No word uses more than 16 beats for its "cheer," so children can efficiently retrieve the right-brained cues for the words they stumble upon in reading and writing. All learning modalities are addressed through this method. The program calls in many right-brain and cross-brain learning strategies. The program is visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.

So Simple At-Home allows you, the parent, to give your child a jump-start in learning these essential sight words, and/or reinforcement of learning at school. The importance of owning these words is tantamount to school reading and writing success.

So Simple At-Home allows families to take, on average, 15 minutes to day to engage their children in a fun, interactive way to enjoy success in reading early-on! Each DVD contains 18-24 essential sight words, most of which do not follow the "phonics rules." Practice of one word at a time is facilitated, as the DVD stops after each word clip is presented. By pressing the "next" button, the new word will be presented.

As well as the DVD used to teach the words using music and movement, a book of practice sentences is included. Your child can practice successfully reading simple sentences that use the words he/she has learned in a systematic manner, reviewing learned words and including new words as the sentences in the book progress.

Also included is a book of simple stories to practice fluency in reading as more sight words are learned. As your child learns more words and is able to read them in these stories, the "I CAN!" he/she experiences will take away the anxiety that the printed page can often present young learners. Your child will be more confident to take on new academic challenges as he/she enters the school situation and has essential sight word reading knowledge.

A set of word, picture, and punctuation cards are also included to assist in sight word practice. These cards can be incorporated in some of the activities in A Month of Ideas: 31 Fun and Simple Activities to Reinforce Your Child's Reading Success!. This book is included with the purchase of Volume 1 and the complete set of Volumes 1 through 3, or may also be purchased separately.

A Month of Ideas: 31 Fun and Simple Activities to Reinforce Your Child's Reading Success! allows you 31 different engaging ideas to take a small amount of time each day to assist your child in the reinforcement of sight words through some fun and simple activities that take from as little as 3 minutes to a half hour. You can choose the activities your child enjoys most, and those that fit the time-frame you have to work with your child on a certain day. Some will take place in the car, during quiet time or family time during your day, or even while he/she is eating breakfast! Learning should be an activity that happens while "life" is happening. The success you and your child experience at home will not only increase success at school, it will also increase a love for reading!
